Day Services Direct Support Professional


Qualifications

  • Age twenty-two (22) or older
  • Education equivalent to graduation from accredited high school or a GED
  • Experience equivalent to one (1) year full time employment in a field related to the mission of the agency
  • Possession of a valid Tennessee driver’s license

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely, in verbal and written form
  • No physical barriers or limitations to lifting
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques involved in training and programming to meet the needs of the people supported and agency
  • Ability to have good judgement and decision-making skills
  • Ability to be flexible in his/her job position
  • Ability to care for all people supported in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations

Essential Duties

  • Chart all relevant data pertaining to training and program goals
  • Maintain running records daily for each person supported supervised
  • Complete and submit monthly reviews to the Program Coordinator by designated due date
  • Use time productively and efficiently
  • Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal techniques to communicate effectively with persons supported, staff, and parents
  • Engage persons supported in the learning process
  • Serve as a role model for persons supported by exhibiting good judgement and good decision-making skills
  • Participate in minor housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment
  • Administer medications as needed to persons supported per medication guidelines
  • Assist persons supported with activities of daily living
  • Be able to lift, assist lifts, assist with transferring persons supported
  • Plan instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse needs/abilities of persons supported
  • Report specific needs of the persons supported to the appropriate staff
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow staff and supervisors
  • Assist Program Coordinator in meeting the quality assurance standards set forth by DIDD
  • Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of persons supported records
  • Follow monthly activity calendars, cleaning schedules, med calendar, and van watch daily
  • Communicate with local businesses to assist with finding employment opportunities for persons supported
  • Discharge other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or Executive Director
  • Assist the Executive Director with agency employees' morale and cohesion
  • Provide a positive presence and assist with conflict management as needed
